Fracturing - Frac Additives (Nonemulsifier, Crosslinker)

The water-based fracturing (fracing) has become more and more significant in the last few years. The following aqueous basic frac-mixture can be used together with a propping agent (such as sand) for hydraulic fracturing in oil and gas industry.

  • gellants (polymers with hydroxyl groups, such as guar gum, 0.1 to 0.5 %)

  • borate cross-linker FRAC-CL-110 (0.1 to 0.5 %) or FRAC-CL-310 (0.1 to 0.5 %)

  • non-emulsifier GURODEM-100 (0.1 to 0.15 %) or GURODEM-300 (0.08 to 0.12 %)

  • gel breaker (oxidizing agent e.g. Ammoniumpersulfate)

The application of FRAC-CL-110 und FRACCL-310 provides spontaneously to the formation of a gel. The addition of aldehydes such as glyoxal delays the gel formation if that is desired.
It is possible to accelerate the decrease of viscosity of cross-linked gel with oxidizing agents (oxidizers, breakers). Persulfates such as ammonium persulfate are suitable for that. An additional breaker activator (e.g. BXL-A 0.01 to 0.15 %) is necssary at formation temperatures below 50 °C.

In many cases it is needful to add a corrosion inhibitor, biocid, clay stabilizer etc. to the frac fluid.
